Bildspråkets bokklubb

If you speak Swedish and want to discuss photo books, join an online meeting with Bildspråkets bokklubb. It doesn’t cost anything but you have to buy my book Pictures of a Family.

This is what Göran Segeholm writes (in Swedish) about the event.

Welcome!

In August 1997, Ulf Lundin opened his first solo exhibition, Pictures of a Family, at Galleri Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm. The exhibition was also the gallery’s first in the premises at Riddargatan 29. The work has since been shown in a number of exhibitions, both in Sweden and internationally, and laid the foundation for Ulf Lundin’s artistic practice. Now, almost 30 years later, Lundin has returned to the work and compiled it in book form. Some images have been added and all images have been digitised and edited. The 124-page book presents 64 images from the series and is published by Skreid Publishing. The publisher is present at the event.

Niclas Östlind has a PhD in photography, is a curator and Deputy Head of Research at HDK-Valand. He held an exhibition of Ulf Lundin’s work Pictures of a Family at Gävle Konstcentrum back in 2000. The work raises a number of intriguing questions about identity, surveillance, ethics and narrative. The fact that it is almost thirty years since Pictures of a Family was created also means that a lot has changed, not least social media, which helps the work to be seen and understood in new ways.

Old project - new book

I’ve made a book of the project Pictures of a Family, photographed in 1996 and first shown 1997. In the project I’m spying on and photographing a old friend and his family for a year. We have a contract that gives me permission to do what I’m doing. In other words they know that I’m there but they don’t know when.

When I’ve shown the project in exhibitions I’ve shown up to 32 images. In the book there are 64. There will be a release for the book at Galleri Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm December 3. More information will come but save the date.

The book can at this moment only be bought from this homepage: http://ulflundin.nu/books

Some installation images from Chart Art Fair in Copenhagen. Galleri Magnus Karlsson showed three images from the series Best of Sweden in the stair case to and from the fair.
